Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes
Seniors
The seniors started their campaign in the South Ulster League in great form yesterday holding Mullahoran, runners up in the Cavan county championship, to a draw. Although Mullahoran opened the scoring the Bridge men marked tightly and pushed forward continuously with some nice controlled moves and in the 7th minute a good point from Damian McCann meant they were on their way. From time to time their passing let them down, and they had a couple of wides and a missed shot at goal, but the half- time whistle saw them leading by two points. The second half was exiting for the spectators with the Bridge pushing forward only to lose the ball at a vital moment, but to their credit they kept up the pressure and with some good defending won back the advantage. Mullahoran had a dominant period towards the final quarter and went into the lead but our men fought on and in the final seconds a Conor McEvoy point drew the match. It was a good match enjoyed by home and visiting supporters. Damian MCann was in good shooting form ending with a tally of 0-7 with Conor McAoy getting 0-2. Kenneth McVerry defended his goals well and made one particularly vital save earning a knock on the head for his trouble. Final score was 0-9 to 0-9
Next Sunday’s game is away to Pearse Ógs.
B Team
The B team’s match against Dorsey Emmets in the South Armagh Shield was the curtain-raiser to the senior game. The team was in excellent form and dominated throughout the field. They played efficiently in a hard hitting game with a good goal from young Crummy followed soon afterwards by an opportunistic one from Kevin Campbell leaving Dorsey Emmets playing catch-up. They started the second half with an excellent lead and built on it with a goal from Niall McAvoy and several more points. The Emmets could only score 4 points in this half and the loss of one of their players with a red card was the final blow to their challenge. The final score was 3-10 to 0-6 and this win earned us a place in next Sunday’s semi-final against Lissummon.
Under 14
Team managers wish to remind the U-14 team members that training is on every Saturday at 3pm and if there are any other lads who haven’t joined up yet feel free to come along. The first outing in the Féile competition is on 6th March against Culloville in Culloville.
Watch this space for details of a Raymond Loye Pool Tournament which we are in the process of organising. The competition will be held over 3 nights and I should have the dates for next week.
Scór
There was a good attendance at the scór final in the resource centre last night. Silverbridge won the quiz and novelty act categories and go on to represent Co Armagh in the Ulster semi-final in Glenavy on the 14th March! Well done everyone. Congratulations must go to everyone who took part in the competition and entertained the audience with such a diversity of talent. From the céile and set dancers to the beautiful solo singing and the harmonious melodies of the ballad groups, to the recitations and novelty acts and the knowledge shared by the quiz participants there was entertainment for all. A lot of effort goes into the organising of these events from team preparation to adjudication and in between and they are very deserving of our support.
