Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes

Seniors
The match on Saturday against Devenish was played with flags at half-mast, and after a minute’s silence to mark the untimely death of Cormac McAnallen.
Devenish opened the scoring with a good point from play and had scored again before the Bridge got going. We were unable to take the lead at any time in the game. The Bridge players did not mark tightly enough and allowed Devenish to go forward too easily.  Two missed opportunities to score goals and other shots kicked wide left the Bridge trailing by 3 points at half-time even though they had 60% of the play. Devenish scored a goal early into the second half and although this lead seemed too big our boys played gamely on.  A Liam Campbell goal with a point from him shortly afterwards narrowed the gap but Devenish were just able to stay that one point ahead. In the dying seconds it seemed as if we might equalise but the ball didn’t bounce right and the chance was gone. Ryan Hamill played well in midfield contesting every ball and found good support from Cormac McAvoy.  Liam Campbell was on form taking scores and laying the ball on well.  Brendan Bellew, Bernard Connolly and Colm Traynor all added to the final tally.   When Paddy Reel came on as a sub he gave the defence the impetus it lacked and won the ball through tight marking.  The team will have to do something to improve their score taking because 11 wides are far too many in a game and lost us the match.  The final score was 1-13 to 1-12.
Next Sunday 14th we are playing away to Gaeil Triucha at 12pm. There will be a bus from the clubrooms at 10am.

B Team
The B team played Lissummon yesterday in Keeley Park. On a day when everything went wrong the game was disappointing. Lissummon had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and with a team who were bigger all over got some handy scores giving them a good lead.  In fact almost 20 minutes of play had gone before the Bridge scored. They began the second half very much behind and were unable to raise their game. Aidan Garvey, Raymond crummy and Niall McAvoy all scored but the end result was 2-10 to 0-6. We congratulate Lissummon and wish them well in the final against Dromintee.

U- 14
Our U-14 team recorded a hard earned victory in their first match of the year in Culloville on Saturday last.  The game was played under good conditions in Culloville.  The Bridge took an early advantage with points from Thomas McKenna and Christopher Campbell. Culloville fought back strongly and led at half-time by 3 points. With a fisted Peter Carragher goal closing the gap the second half was keenly contested with the sides matching each other score for score.  The Bridge led by a point going into the final minutes, but a late point from Culloville ensured extra time. With both teams performing extremely in this period Culloville looked to have the upper hand leading by 4 points at the end of the first period. The Bridge boys came back strong with great scores from Thomas McKenna and a vital goal from Cathal Lambe while Dean Martin defended magnificently. There was great relief at the final whistle with the Bridge winning by 3 points in a score of 27 to 24 points. Congratulations to all the boys involved with great performances in defence by Dean Martin and Paul McNamee, in midfield by Peter Carragher and attack by Cathal Lambe and Thomas McKenna.
Next weeks game is against Dromintee.
