Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes

Seniors

Sunday 18th sees the seniors face Harps in the first match of the league.  They are training hard and on Tuesday night last they played Knockbridge in a challenge, which they won.

Minors

Monday night saw the minors take on Cross in the opening encounter of the League.  The Bridge were slow to start and at halftime they were behind 1-3 to 0-2.  They came back on to the field in a more determined mood and goals early in the half gave them the impetus they needed. They turned the game completely denying Cross the opportunity to score in the second half. Eugene Burns scored 1-1 as did Brendan Maguire, and Niall Trainor got two points with Conor Campbell and Brendan Burns getting a point each. Final score 2-6 to 1-3.

U 16

The U16s lost by the narrowest of margins on Tuesday night in Culloville. They started out well and went in at halftime 4 points to the good. Padraig Cumisky scored a good goal after a run from midfield in the first half.  They came out after the break and played determinately.  Rory Griffith claimed another goal when his dummy caught the keeper out. However the Bridge missed too many chances and let Culloville back in.  Gerard McGarvey scored from a 50 and his second attempt hit the crossbar. Eugene Burns’ tally was 3 points and Niall Trainor got 2.  Final score was 1-12 to 2-8 in Cullaville’s favour.

U 14

The U14 team recorded a win in their first league match on Tuesday 30th March against St Josephs.  The Bridge started the match strongly with some fine scores from Cathal Lambe and Thomas McKenna.  However, St Josephs came back strongly to leave the scores very tight at half time.  In the second half the Bridge lads put in a great display, the whole team making a great effort.  Silverbridge ran out winners in the end although St Josephs played their part in an entertaining game.  The Bridge had good performances from Brendan Faughey, Declan Gollogy and Thomas McKenna.

On Tuesday night past they beat Mullaghbawn. This was a hard earned victory as a very determined Mullaghbawn put up a great first half performance against a very strong wind.  The scores were close at half time but the Bridge led thanks to a well earned Christopher Rowland goal. In the second half the Bridge played very well against the wind with the forwards getting some excellent scores. The Bridge ran out comfortable winners in the end but all credit to Mullaghbawn for a commited performance. Silverbridge had good performances in defence from Paul McNamee and Gary Rowland, in midfield from Kevin O’Neill while Kieran Maguire and Thomas McKenna got some important scores in attack to secure the win.

U 12

The U12s play away to Killeavy on Saturday 10th at 4pm.

Ladies Football

The ladies played Dromintee in a challenge on Wednesday as preparation for the season now upon them. The U14 team takes on Killeavy next weekend and the seniors travel to face Éire Óg on Easter Tuesday.

Lotto

The winning numbers were 10, 13, 15 and 19. The 5 who matched 3 numbers each received £40. The jackpot for next week is £5,200.

Meetings

There will be a meeting of the auction steering committee at 8pm on Easter Tuesday night followed by an Executive meeting at 9pm.
Events

On Easter Sunday we will be well entertained as Pat and Donal are playing in the “Wee Bar” in the afternoon and Limelite will be in the Clubrooms later that night, so put on your dancing shoes.

Don’t forget the play “The Rare Auld Times” in the Resource Centre on Friday 16th. It is reputed to be very witty.

Auction.

It seems no time at all from we first contemplated the auction but now the 17th April is almost upon us.  We have managed to get to the majority of homes in the community and we have had a good response to our appeal. However, should we have missed you out please let us know. We are still taking donations and can arrange collection to suit.  We have a great variety of items in the auction. There are antiques, furniture, tools, electrical goods, agricultural implements and lots of other items.  We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.  The proceedings will begin at noon.  Weather permitting we propose having the main auction outside with stalls inside the centre where you can browse and purchase at leisure.  Do come out and support us!
