Silverbridge Harps GAC  Notes

Seniors

Our encounter with Cross was postponed in circumstances way beyond our control and may now be played on Wednesday night.  St Michaels come to play us next Sunday.

B Team

The B team’s match had to be re-arranged for Sunday because the fields were unplayable.  Despite their best efforts the Bridge failed to put their stamp on the game and Dromintee ran out the winners.   On Wednesday night they travel to Killeavy.

Minors

The minors should have played Dromintee on Monday night last but, as some of the Dromintee players were involved in the St Paul’s game the day before, it was only right to postpone the game.  Tonight (Monday) Shane O’Neills come to the Bridge for the game at 7 15pm.

U 16

On Thursday night the U16s took on Corrinshigo. In a match which might be said to be very one-sided and which the Bridge won comfortably we saw some good play from the younger and less experienced members of the squad.  Christopher Murphy, Conor Galbraith, Paul Hughes and Paudie Cummisky all showed good skill and commitment. Next weeks game is against St Bridgets.

U 14

The U14 team suffered their first defeat in this year’s league to a strong Corrinshigo team last Tuesday night.  This was a match played out under terrible conditions which made it very difficult for either team to play good football.  The Bridge boys played well in the first half and were level coming up to half time. However, Corrinshigo scored two goals late in the half to obtain a lead which they did not lose again in the match.  The Bridge lads tried hard in the second half but they couldn’t reduce the Corrinshigo lead and they ran out comfortable winners in the end.  Declan Gollogy, Kevin O’Neill and Peter Carragher put in good performances.  The boys have an important match next week away to Belleek.

U 12

This team has had a disappointing start to their league campaign with losses to Cross and Shane O’Neills.  Hopefully with a bit more training and effort their luck will change.  Saturdays match is against Mullaghbawn.

U 10

In a close and hard-fought encounter in Mullaghbawn Silverbridge emerged winners with scores from Gary Reel, Fionnan Burns, Sean McLoughlin, Eoghan Burns, Gerard Mines and Darren Rowland.  The entire backline gave a great performance as did goalkeepers Christopher Cunningham and Cathal McKeown. Next Sunday’s game is with Cross in Silverbridge.

Ladies Football

On Monday night the U14 team went to Killeavy to play their first league match.  In an exciting match the girls played very well, the whole team making a great effort, and emerged victorious with a final score of 5-3 to 3-2.  Laura McShane had a brilliant game scoring three goals. Aoibhin Traynor with 1-1, Niamh Guernin and Megan Burns all played very well. Next game is Monday 3rd May against Mullaghbawn.

The senior ladies played Sarsfields on Saturday night.  They had a good game and goals early on give them an advantage, from which they went on to achieve a convincing win of 3-8 to 2-4. Roisin Murphy played well in defence and Seana O’Neill and Teresa Loye were in top form. Next Saturday evening they play away to Whitecross.

Camogie

Unfortunately, because of injuries, and work, school and family commitments, the camogie girls have had to make the sad decision to wind up the club for this year anyway. This is such a pity but hopefully next year there will be enough girls to field at least one team.

Lotto

The winning formula was 15, 16, 20, and 22.  Two people had three numbers and won £100 each.  Next week’s jackpot is £5,600 or 8,400.  This is a nice amount of money so make sure you get your numbers done in time.  If you’re not in you won’t win!!

Important announcement.

I have been asked to say to all underage players from minors down please leave your mobile phones at home whether you are coming to train or play a match.  As you may have read in the paper during the week a court case is pending in Donegal arising from an incident involving young players and a mobile phone.  Although the incident was intended as a bit of fun it got out of control, so for the time being please when you come to the club to play forget the phone.
