Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes
Seniors
The senior team played Cross on Wednesday night but were unable to withstand a very strong and determined Cross challenge. They fared much better on Sunday when they met St. Michaels. This was a good game in which the Bridge struggled at first. St Michaels had 4 points up right away and our boys did not score until the 16th minute. They played more determinately from this point and at half time were only two points behind. Bernard Connolly scored a goal mid way through the second half and this was what was needed to give us the edge. From there we went on to win by 1-8 to 0-8. Kenneth McVerry made a couple of good saves and Niall Reel, Rory Murchan and Ciaran Crummy had a really good second half. We travel to Dromintee for next week’s game.
B Team
Wednesday night’s game had to be postponed. We hope to play Mullaghbawn this week.
Minors
The minors had a good win over Shane O’Neills last Monday night. The lads showed some good team moves and everyone played well with the forwards getting some nice scores and the backs defending well. They are away to St Patricks this week.
U 16
This team took on St Brigets on Thursday night. They had an easy game and were able to pick their scores well. Conall Quinn and Cathal Fagan gave a good account of themselves and our goal scorers were in excellent form as usual. Oliver Plunketts come to play us this Thursday night.
U 14
The U14 boys suffered defeat away to Belleek on Tuesday night last. This was a closely fought match and the Bridge boys can take great heart from a very committed performance. The boys started the match strongly but conceded a goal just before halftime to give Belleeks the lead. Our lads tried hard in the second half against a strong wind but were unable to close the gap. We had some good performances on the night, in particular from Kevin O’Neill, Paul McNamee, Cathal Lambe and Martin Conlon.
On Saturday last we travelled to Warrenpoint for a blitz at the invitation of St Peters. All had a great day and we would like to thank St Peters for their hospitality. Tuesday’s game will be against Culloville.
U 12
The U12s had a good contest with Mullaghbawn on Saturday, running out the eventual winners with a score of 3-7 to 2-9. It was a keenly fought game but the Bridge boys succeeded in stepping up their performance with goals from Gary Rowland and Francis Carragher. Harry Thornton, Seamie Martin and Darren Martin all played their part. Saturday’s opposition comes from Carrickcruppen.
U 10
The U10s came up against a very strong Cross team and although they tried hard they came off second-best. Hard luck lads. Next week they take on Shane O’Neills.
