Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes

Seniors

The senior team continued their Ulster League campaign on Sunday when they travelled to Liatroim in Co Down. On a bright but bitterly cold Sunday afternoon we were treated to a good game of football. The Bridge had a great first half and Kieran Crummy was in tremendous form scoring 1-2 in this half. Stefan Murphy played well too in attack picking up good ball from Cormac McAvoy who won a lot of possession at mid-field. As usual our backs stood firm and by half time we had built up a substantial lead of 1-6 to 0-1. Liatroim put on county player Aidan O’ Prey for the second half and he spearheaded their fight back. He scored a goal right away and was awarded a penalty soon afterwards. Goalkeeper Miceal Reel saved his shot at goal but the deflection ended up in the back of the net and suddenly Liatroim were in contention. Our lads dug deep and it was point for point for the rest of the match with Kieran Crummy, Niall Reel, who also had a great game, Frank Smyth, Liam Campbell and Ciarán Conlon all picking up their scores. By the final whistle we had done enough to ensure a win. The final score was 1-12 to 2-7.

Next Sunday’s match is against Gilgarry in the Bridge at 3pm.

U 14

The U14s have their first match next Saturday in the Féile competition. The opposition is Carrickcruppen and the game will be played in Fords Cross, and they hope as many as possible come along to support them.

Lotto

The winning numbers last week were 5, 16, 30 and 31 and there were 11 match three winners 9 of whom won £20 and the other 2 got €30. The jackpot has now risen to £12,800 or €19,200.

Meetings

The Underage managers and coaches will meet this Wednesday night at 9 pm in the clubrooms.

First Aid

We are arranging a first aid course in the near future possibly in the Resource centre. I will announce details as they are confirmed.

Ladies Fun Hour

The ladies group are having a fun hour this Thursday night from 8 to 9 pm in the Resource centre. If you feel that a light-hearted game of football, netball, volleyball, soccer etc. would help you wind down or just want a bit of craic do come along.

Social Club

Friday 4th March    Senior Citizen’s party.

Saturday 5th March  Charity night in aid of Sick children with artistes John Glenn, Margaret Reel and other acts including All Ireland champion dancers.

Scór

Congratulations to Senior Novelty Act which won the County title on Sunday night in Killeavy and well done to the Quiz team who were runners up in their section. Our actors now proceed to the Ulster semi-final in Saval on Sunday 13th March and we wish them every success there.

Youth Club

The boys night will not be held on Wednesday night because of the Water Rates discussion which is being held in the Main Hall.

I would to bring to the notice of parents that some young people are coming to the club but are not coming inside. They spend the two hours hanging about outside in the cold without supervision. As there is no reason for them to be here on those nights we would ask you to keep them at home or ensure they are coming into the club, as we are only responsible for those who sign in. We really would appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
