Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes
Seniors
The Senior team is busy training away in preparation for their matches in the League. Next Sunday sees the commencement of the League for them when they travel to play Armagh Harps at 2 pm.
Minors
The League begins for the Minors on Monday 4th April against Crossmaglen in Cross.
U 16
The U16s were in action last Thursday night against Carrickcruppen. They put in a great effort but were overcome by a bigger, stronger Cruppen squad. They will be playing again this Thursday but we must wait for the fixture list in the local press to find out the details. Training continues on Tuesday night.
U 14
The U14s were a little bit unlucky in their encounter with Crossmaglen last Tuesday night. They played a great game, defending well and picking off some good points but the ball bounced awkwardly into the net on two occasions for Cross and this gave them the advantage at the end. This week’s game is against Mullaghbawn in the Bridge tonight (Tuesday) at 6 45 pm.
U 12
The U12 team had a home game against Killeavy on Saturday but they are a very young squad and were beaten by a more capable team. Training continues on Wednesday night at 7 pm sharp and there will be a game next Saturday, details of which will be in the paper during the week.
Ladies Football
The Ladies had a terrific game against Clady last Saturday and lost by the narrowest of margins. They played well in the first half and went in at half time two points behind. Seana O’Neill got a goal soon after the break to claim the lead, but Clady scored a goal of their own and got two more points. Dara Collins narrowed the margin again with her goal and in the last five minutes the Bridge played their utmost for the equaliser but it just evaded them. This was a great game played in a skilful and sporting manner to an enthusiastic and vocal support, which created a great atmosphere. Threasa Loye shone in midfield, with Roisin and Patricia Murphy defending excellently. Siobhan Moley, usually a forward, had to play in the backline and gave a great account of herself. She picked up a hand injury and we hope that when she returns to the hospital on Monday she finds the fingers are not broken.
The next senior game is Saturday away to Whitecross at 7 pm and the girls would really appreciate your support. The U14s are away to Dromintee this Monday 4th April.
Training for beginners begins next Sunday morning at 11 am.
Lotto
Last Monday’s numbers were 1, 2, 4 and 16. Nine people matched three to win £25 each. The jackpot for this week is £10,200 or €15,300.
As well as the usual draw there were two extra prizes of £100 won by Sean Ward and Mags and Rosena Reel, and four of £50 won by Thomas Grant, Frances & Eileen, Niamh Hanratty and Lorraine Grant.
The sellers were entered into a special draw for four holidays and four dinners. The holiday winners are Coogan’s Lisdoo, Brea Murphy, Mary Catherine Traynor and Enda Hughes. Kathie McKeown, Jack Reel, Barney Donaghy and TSS won the dinners.

Upcoming events
As part of our activities to garner much needed revenue for the new field we are having a sponsored walk and family fun day on Monday 2nd May. We are looking to all our members for support in this endeavour. Sponsor cards will be delivered to every member this week to give you a chance to drum up the support of family and friends. The walk will leave Fords at 12 00 noon on the day and will take in the Lurgan, Cortreasla and Carnally Roads to return to Fords. We would hope to have a large number of walkers but we will also need others in support with traffic calming and the rest. We have arranged to have a photo taken of all the participants and this will be a lovely memento. On completion of the walk we will have a barbecue and fun for the young people outside__ weather permitting, but we are lucky to have the Resource Centre if conditions prove inclement and all members of the community are invited.
On 9th July we are having an open-air concert in the field, with entertainment by some famous groups. We have one or two details to finalise and then it will be “all systems go”.

Congratulations
Our young player Harry Thornton, son of club members Adrian and Jackie Thornton, is now an All-Ireland Boxing Champion. He overcame all opposition last week in the National Stadium in Dublin to win the Boy 2 title in the 60-kilo class. This is a wonderful achievement for Harry who put great effort and commitment into his training. He has now been selected to go forward for more intensive training with the national squad. Well done Harry! We are proud of you.
