Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes

Seniors

The seniors’ postponed league match with Mullaghbawn will be played on Thursday night at 8 pm in the Bridge.

B Team

The B team had a tough encounter last Wednesday night with Dromintee in the League Final and came off second best. It was indeed a game of two halves with the Bridge dominating in the first half. The Bridge opened the scoring with a Brendan McGuire point and played some good football marking tightly to deny the opposition the chance to settle. By half time both teams had four points on the scoreboard but the Bridge were wide of the mark on five occasions and unfortunately these wides would count. Dromintee took control of the game in the second half. They went three points ahead from resumption of play before Raymond Crummy pointed for the Bridge. They put serious pressure on our defence who made a gallant effort to deny them scores, and when we got the ball forward they closed us down. Our forwards laboured the ball and lost it continuously or when they did shoot failed to score. Seven more wides in this half left the game out of reach. When we lost a man in this half for a second yellow card Dromintee used the extra man to advantage and in the end the score was 0-6 to 0-10. Scorers—Brendan McGuire 0-2, Brendan Burns 0-1, Raymond Crummy 0-2, Barry Campbell 0-1.

U 12

The U 12s played Shane O’Neills in an away match on Saturday last. In a disappointing first half the boys scored only two points from Martin Hearty. The lads played with more fight in the second half with goals from Martin Hearty and Bernard Garvey and points from Cillian Quinn but in the end they lost to a much stronger Shane O’Neills. Best performances on the day were from Brian Murphy, Martin Hearty, Cillian Quinn, Gary Reel and Darren Murphy.

U 10

The U 10s have made it through to the final of their division and are preparing for that match with challenge games.

It was great to see how many turned up last week to help with the construction of the retaining wall at the top of the new field and through their efforts the wall was quickly constructed and we are now asking for help in plastering it. So could all who are willing to help plaster come along at 7 pm on Monday night.

Ulster Senior Football Champions

Congratulations to the Armagh team for winning the title in such a thrilling manner on Saturday and good luck to them in the next rounds.
