Silverbridge Harps GAC Notes

Seniors

The Seniors got stuck in the doldrums this week and were unable to pick up any points from the two games played. On Wednesday night last they travelled to Maghery to play the re-fixed match but were unable to capture any of the form they had shown against Cross and, apart from good performances from Anthony Mallie and Kieran Campbell, they played in a lacklustre manner and lost out in the end.

In Sunday’s game with St Michaels they got off to a good start with a Liam Campbell point in the first minute, followed a minute later by one from Cormac McAvoy. By the twelfth minute when Newtown registered their first score the Bridge were four up thanks to some nice teamwork and good movement forward. Backs, Anthony Mallie, Kieran Campbell and Peter McCreesh were in terrific form and with tight marking and timely interceptions forced the visitors to miss the target. In this period, too, the Bridge might have had three more scores one of them a goal but their accuracy let them down. In the twenty-sixth minute Newtown headed goal-wards and against the run of play evaded the keeper to find the back of the net. The Bridge replied with a Ciaran Conlon point and went in at the break with a lead of two points.

Newtown moved up a gear for the second half and won the ball from the throw-in but their first shot went wide, and the Bridge fared no better when they moved down the field. In the seventh minute they pointed to narrow the margin but a Bernard Connolly point gave us the edge again. It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the game as Newtown equalised and the Bridge went ahead on two more occasions. As time ticked away the Bridge ran out of steam and a couple of silly mistakes resulted in scores for the visitors whose final four scores went unanswered and they finished the eventual winners with a score of 1-10 to 0-10.

This week’s match is the refixed game with Mullaghbawn, which will be played on Wednesday night at 7 30pm in the Bridge.

Minors

The Minors meet Crossmaglen this Monday in the next round of the championship at 7 30 pm in the Bridge.

Lotto

Last week’s numbers were 9, 14, 23 and 24. There wasn’t a jackpot winner but six players matched three numbers, two of them won £35 while the other four won €52.50. The jackpot will be £13,400 or €20,100 for this week, so get those numbers done.
