U 21
The U 21s made sure of their place in the next round of the championship with a fine display of football against Keady in the Bridge on Sunday last. The lads started the game in a determined manner and good combination between Ciaran and Gerard got the Bridge on the scoreboard first. The match was played at a fast rate with tight marking, great teamwork and the ability to intercept and turn over the ball. The backs, Colm, Stephane, Anthony, Aidan, Niall Reel and Paddy were superb with Stefan leading by example. Midfielders Brendan and Kevin fought a hard battle to win most of the ball there. The forwards, Gerard, Liam, Conall, Conor, Ciarán and Eugene piled on the pressure, and Niall Quinn played his part when he came on as a substitute in the latter stages of the game. There was a lean period mid way through the first half but Eugene started the fight back and the Bridge ended the half on top with a two- point lead. The second half belonged to us without a doubt. Liam opened for us with a class point, followed shortly by a great point from Ciaran who blocked a clearance by a Keady back to take his score. Goalkeeper, Miceal, had a great game and he and his backs refused to yield to Keady pressure time and again sending the ball back down the field. Niall Reel and Gerard were all over the field reading the ball and intercepting. Once again the lads played as a team and from their enjoyment of the game came a good hour’s entertainment for the crowd who came to watch. The score in the end was 0-13 to 0-4. On Sunday next they take on Culloville in a game to be played in the Bridge and as I’m not sure of the time please check the fixtures during the week.
