U 21
The U 21s met an in-form Culloville in the Championship encounter at the Bridge on Sunday last and lost the game by the narrowest of margins. The lads were slow to get to grips with the slippery field and while Culloville exerted much of the pressure in the early stages of the match wayward shooting on their behalf and good defending by Miceal in goals it was the Bridge who got the opening score with a point from Ciaran after Eugene had won a free. The visitors then settled in and took three points before Eugene narrowed the deficit with a well-taken free kick to leave a halftime score of 0-3 to 0-2 to the visitors.
Culloville came out in top gear after the break and once again Miceal denied them a goal and Liam scored a point to equalise. The Bridge seemed to be getting their act together when, against the run of play, the visitors found the back of the net and another point for them gave them a good score advantage and meant we had it all to do in the final ten minutes. Culloville then lost a man for a second yellow card offence, but as we have seen so often teams find it difficult to use the extra man to their advantage and so with us on Sunday. Time ticked by and we pressurised and went forward and the visitors withstood for a time, but then we got a goal and it looked as if maybe there would be enough time for the equalising point but the final whistle settled everything. The final score was 1-4 to 1-3. Well done Culloville and good luck in your next game.
