Silverbridge Notes 6th March 2006

Seniors

It was all to play for on Saturday last in Keeley Park as the seniors took on Kinawley. They need a win to ensure they stayed top of their group and a win would also mean the newly inaugurated Cathcart Cup would be on display in the clubrooms for the next year. However, the visitors had somewhat similar intentions and doggedly put their plan into action from the throw-in. They had the better of the midfield battle and fed their forwards well but gritty determination and blocking by Anthony Mallie and Peter McCreesh stopped them in their stride. They did register the first score but the Bridge got a goal from the fist of Cormac McAvoy tens minutes in, and the half continued with both sides pressurising and defending well and at the break things were level.
The second half was played in much the same vein but with the ball breaking well for the visitors we had an uphill struggle throughout the half. Kinawley made the most of their chances and ran out at the end three points to the good. The final score was 0-12 to 1-6.
Next Sunday will be a busy day for the senior squad. At 1 pm they play Naomh Malachi in Shelagh in the Rogers/Martin Perpetual Cup, and at 4 pm they travel to Tyholland for their final game in this round of the Ulster Clubs League.
