Seniors Silverbridge 2-14 Sarsfields 2-8.
After a run of three defeats the seniors returned to winning form with a good away win over Sarsfields last Friday night.Sarsfields got off to a good start with two points on the board and could have had an early goal but for a great save by Bridge goalkeeper Miceal Reel. The Bridge corner forwards, Eugene Byrne and Ciaran Conlon, were looking sharp from the early stages and contributed a total of 1-6 between them. By half-time the Bridge led by 0-10 to 1-4 with three of the points coming from the boot of Liam Campbell. A fisted goal early in the second half from Cormac McAvoy and another from Ciaran Conlon after a typical surge forward by wing halfback Brendan Bellew put us well ahead. The home side hit back with four points on the trot to put some doubt into the outcome, but closing points from Ciaran Conlon and substitute Frank Smyth ensured a Bridge victory.
Next Sunday the team is away to Clann Éireann, the match being played at 3 pm.
B Team Silverbridge 0-10 Dromintee 1-4
The B team secured their place in the Championship final with a win over Dromintee in Mullaghbawn last Wednesday night. In a tightly fought contest the Bridge played the first half against the wind and only managed to score two points in this half; both from the boot of Bernard Connolly but at the break Dromintee only led by a single point. In the second half the Bridge had the better part of the battle with points from Michael Lavelle (0-2), Bernard Connolly (0-4), Kieran Crummy (0-1) and the final score of the game from Brendan McGuire. This Wednesday they play Dromintee again, this time in the league and at home.
Minors
The minors travelled to Cullyhanna to take on St Patricks last Monday night but on the night played well below their potential to suffer defeat. They squandered many scoring chances in the first half but were still in with a shout at the break. Early in the second half the Cullyhanna lads converted a penalty and with another point increased their lead but they then had a player sent off and the Bridge seemed to fall apart. Apart from excellent defending from Christopher Murphy, Conall Quinn and Paul Hughes there was little to applaud in the team. They will have to get their act together and play the way we know they can this Monday night for their Championship encounter with Wolfe tones which will unfold at 7-30 pm in the Bridge.U 16

The senior girls had another great win over a strong Pheilim Bradys’ side in Darkley on Saturday evening. While all sixteen girls played their part in this hard-fought win it was goalkeeper, Mollie Hearty, who was the real star with a string of top class saves to keep the home side at bay. Once again the defence was sound throughout with Adrienne Hoey, Megan Burns and Laura Murphy outstanding. Theresa Loye and Siobhan Moley edged the midfield battle and all six forwards and substitute, Orla Reel, scored. At halftime the Bridge led by 2-5 to 1-1 but Bradys pulled back to within three points early in the second half. A Siobhan Moley goal eased the pressure but again Bradys hit back with three points. Orla Reel slotted home a goal but Bradys responded in kind at the other end. With time running out Emma McGahon bundled home the fifth goal to ensure victory.Team: M Hearty, L Murphy, A Hoey, M Burns, R Murphy, L Murphy, T Loye (0-1), S Moley (1-0), S O’Neill (1-0), S Meegan (0-2), P Murphy (1-0), E McGahon (1-2), L Reel (0-1), K McKinley (0-1). Sub. O Reel (1-0) for S Reel (injury).
