AGM

On Thursday night last 4th January, after Fr McKeever celebrated a Mass for deceased members, Silverbridge GAC held its Annual General Meeting.
Proceedings commenced with a minute’s silence in memory of Brendan Donaghy who passed away almost a year ago and is still sadly missed around the club.
The members then received and accepted reports from the chairman, secretary and treasurer.
The senior team took part in the Ulster League early in the year and played in Division Two and the Intermediate Championship. They finished the league in the promotion play-offs but went down to Culloville in the final and must play in the second division again this year. They had a more successful run in the championship, losing at the semi-final stage to Ballymacnab in the dying moments of the game.
The B team had a very successful year and remained unbeaten throughout the year to claim the South Armagh Championship, All County Championship and South Armagh League.
The U 21s exited the Championship at the quarter-final stage when they made Crossmaglen work hard for their victory.
The minors lost out to Crossmaglen in the championship semi-final and in the league final, both of which games were tough encounters.
The U 16s and U 14s also reached the finals in their championships and the U 10s brought three cups home from various tournaments and were defeated in the league final replay..
The managers and mentors of all these teams were congratulated and praised for their commitment during the year. The underage structure under the guidance of Michael McGeeney is doing a particularly important job as they are laying the basis for the future of the club.
A particular word of thanks was expressed to our main sponsor, Rory Donnelly, and to all the other sponsors who helped the teams in many ways all year.
The ladies teams had a successful year too, playing at U 14, senior and minor level where they are amalgamated with Mullaghbawn. Numbers are growing and it is hoped to field an extra team this year. The ladies would like to see more supporters turn up to encourage them in the coming season but thank the club for its assistance last year.
Congratulations go to Teresa Loye who was the only Division three player on the county panel that went all the way to the All-Ireland final.
Well done to all the footballers who provided such wonderful entertainment all year and all club players who represented the club at county level and played on county development squads and college teams.  Congratulations also to club referee, Ronan Quigley, who was chosen to referee this year’s Intermediate championship final.
The club was once again represented in the Junior Scór this year and with the Senior Scór coming up soon it is hoped to entice more people to come along and participate. New blood is needed and will be more than welcome.
The Lotto was once again a great source of much-needed income for the club. Its success is due to the dedicated committee who wish to thank the sellers who are out in all weathers collecting and selling, and of course everyone who buys tickets every week.
The “social Entertainment” committee are also to be lauded for the way they quietly go about organising this weekly entertainment ensuring its success. This is an important facility for the community of which the social aspect is most important.
The Tenner a month club is now entering its final year and had been instrumental in generating funds for the field. Should anyone wish to contribute for this last year please contact Kieran Murphy on 30861 045.
The Development plan is proceeding well. The new fields are looking good and will be ready for matches this year, with a juvenile tournament and training having been played on them already. The new dressing rooms etc. are nearing completion thanks to the dedication of the members who have worked tirelessly in their erection, giving freely of their time and skills over the past few months. All our voluntary workers deserve the highest praise because over the years their efforts have made this club what it is.
The resource Centre was a buzz of activity throughout the year with something for everyone. For the keep-fit enthusiast there is the gym, circuit training, dance aerobics or yoga. Less strenuous but as enjoyable is the bowls and the bowls group have catered for some successful tournaments during the year. Other successful ventures include the Féis, Christmas Fayre and the Christy Moore show.
Pat Traynor took the chair for the election of our new executive committee and the members were pleased to re-elect the out-going committee with a couple of additions.  That committee is: Presidents-Fr. J. McKeever, Pat Traynor, Mixie Toal, and Vice-President-Mickey Traynor. Chairman-Donal Walsh. Vice-Chairman- Kieran Murphy. Secretary-Anthony Mallie.
