Silverbridge Notes 4th June 2007

Seniors   Silverbridge Harps  1-12   Ballymacnab  0-5

The seniors had a good win at home on Friday night to add to their league tally.
The game started at a blistering pace and the first ten minutes in particular produced some great end-to-end football. The visitors scored the first two points but a well-placed goal from Eugene Byrne got the Bridge going and the team played some fine football to secure a well–earned victory. The backs defended closely, the midfielders won the breaks and the forwards did what was needed and notched up the scores.
Scorers: Eugene Byrne (1-5), Brendan Byrne (0-2), Cormac McAvoy (0-2), Stefan Murphy (0-1), Liam Campbell (0-1) and Gerard McGarvey (0-1).
This week’s game is a home match against Annaghmore on Friday night.

B Team

The Bs did not have a game last week but this Tuesday night they play the postponed championship game with Crossmaglen at 7-15 pm in the Bridge.

Minors

The minors produced a good team performance in a hotly contested game with St Patricks last Monday night but had to admit defeat in the end with a deficit of five points.
This week’s game is an away match with Shane O’Neills.

U 16

This week the lads have a home game against Mullaghbawn.

U 14

The U14 boys were beaten by St Joseph’s in Poyntzpass on Tuesday evening in a very entertaining match with both teams evenly matched throughout the field.  St Josephs however were the luckier side in front of goal, and led at half time after scoring 3 goals. Silverbridge struggled to find the net and hit some bad wides, but they regrouped in the second half to put in a good performance and had a lot of possession although they couldn’t convert this into scores. Poyntzpass ran out as deserving winners.  There were good performances on the night from Cormac Reel, Padraig Moley and Cillian Quinn.

U 12

The U 12’s game was postponed on Saturday because of Holy Communion in Glassdrummond.

U 10

The U 10s match with Carrickcruppen was called off on Sunday morning. They will play away in Dromintee next Sunday.

5 to 8 year olds

Training continues on Sunday morning from 11 o’clock for this group of boys and girls.

Ladies Football

U 12

The U 12s match of Friday last against Crossmaglen will now be played on Wednesday night at 7 pm in Keeley Park.
The girls are reminded that there will be training on Monday evening commencing at 5-30 pm sharp.

Seniors

The senior ladies put in a tremendous effort in the championship semi-final on Saturday night in Whitecross but failed to progress.
Keady played with the wind in the first half and two early goals left the Bridge with a mountain to climb. Our girls played much better in the second half,  but never looked like overtaking a strong Keady side. Aoibheann Traynor was top scorer with 1-6. The defence stood up well to the first half pressure with Patricia Murphy working like a Trojan to curb the efforts of the most dangerous Keady forward and Mollie Hearty cleared her line well. Megan Burns, Roisin Murphy and Adrienne Hoey played their hearts out but it was not enough to win a place in the county final. The final score was 3-10 to 1-7.

Congratulations

Congratulations go to the Armagh U 15 team, captained by Silverbridge player Peter Carragher that recently won the Ulster Council U 15 tournament in Cookstown.
