Seniors
The seniors travelled to Lurgan last Thursday night to play Clann Éireann and came home with two valuable league points.Clanns were first to score but only got one more point in this half while the Bridge clocked up six, four from Niall Treanor and one each from Cormac McAvoy and Damian McCann. This was a tight first half in which the backs defended well and turned the ball around, or forced the homesters to shoot wide.
Both teams came out in determined mode after the break but for the first period Clanns had two wides and the Bridge three wides for their efforts.
Clanns then got on a roll with two points and a goal giving a one point advantage, but Damian McCann brought the sides level again. Clanns scored again but the Bridge lads swung into action to notch up five scores, while Miceal Reel withstood the pressure on his goals and a final Damian McCann point left the Bridge with a three-point margin as the final whistle blew.
The final score was 0-13 to 1-7.
B Team
The B Team were in action in Crossmaglen on Wednesday night for the Championship final against local rivals St Patricks, but were forced to relinquish their title. The Bridge had the better part of the encounter in the first half to lead by a point at the break, but that margin should have been much more had the lads used their possession to better advantage.
The Cullyhanna men kept the pressure on throughout the second half and the Bridge players fought to the very end but the game slipped away and they lost by two points in the end.
Team: Benny Cummiskey, Conall Quinn, Adrian Campbell, Fergal Connolly, Raymond Crummy (1-0), Paddy Reel, Paul Hughes, Gary Quinn (0-1), Jarlath Burns, Niall Quinn, Thomas Mallie, Brendan McGuire, Paudie Cummiskey, Bernard Connolly (0-5), Kieran Crummy (0-1). Subs: Sean O’Leary, Michael Lavelle.
U 14
The U14 team had a great win over Mullaghbawn on Tuesday night past, producing their best performance this year as every player tried hard and contributed to a well deserved win. The Bridge lead from the first few minutes and as the match progressed increased the lead further with some great scores from Francis Carragher, Sean McLaughlin and Fiannan Burns. There were also good performances on the night from Cormac Reel, Cillian Quinn, Paddy Reel and Gerard Mines. They are home to St Josephs tonight (Tuesday) at 7-15 pm.
U 12
The U 12s secured another two league points at home to Shane O’Neills on Saturday. The first half was end-to-end stuff with the teams trading scores, which meant the teams were level at the break. The second half saw Shanes rush into a four-point lead, but the Bridge lads rallied and turned the game around with a superb performance in the final ten minutes.
This was a great team performance with Paddy Reel, Cathal McKeown, Cormac McKinley and Daniel Traynor standing out.
There will be training at 6-30 pm on Tuesday evening.
Ladies Football
U 16
The U 16s faced a strongly fancied Armagh Harps side in the first round of the Championship during the week and, although defeated, gave a wonderful account of themselves. The girls performed exceptionally well right from the start and took an early lead and went in at the break just four points behind. They refused to give up against very strong opposition and pressurised to the very end, but had to concede defeat at the final whistle. This was a gutsy team performance with Megan Burns and Laura Murphy strong at midfield, Niamh Gernon and Christine Greville contesting up front and Jenny Reel doing well in goals.
