Official Opening of New Field Sunday 7th October

It’s all systems go for the official opening of the new field on Sunday 7th October. The opening ceremony will be performed by Bishop Clifford and GAA President Nicky Brennan at 2-30 pm. A full programme of events have been arranged for the day, commencing with a game between the Bridge Senior Ladies and Clady at 11-30 am, followed by the Senior men versus Maghery at 12-30 pm. The underage teams will also be showing off their football skills at half time in the matches throughout the day.
All of which leads up to the special event of the day in the much-awaited encounter between Eamon McEneaney’s Louth and an Armagh team with new manager Peter McDonald that kicks off at 3-45 pm.
To finish off the day (and night) John Glen will entertain us in the Resource Centre.

Seniors

The seniors were away to Ballymacnab on Sunday and will be disappointed they did not do enough to win the game.
In the first half both teams were on level terms with superiority passing from one team to another but they went in at the break on 0-7 each.
The Bridge got the first score thanks to a great Anthony Mallie interception and their next score was a pointed free. Ballymacnab scored then, but the Bridge replied with a point after another good interception by Anthony Mallie. Then fortunes changed and Ballymacnab scored four points in a row to go two ahead. Two fine Liam Campbell points brought the teams level once again and Brendan McGuire pointed after taking a pass from Damian McCann who had worked hard to win the ball and get it up the field. Dogged determination by the men on both sides meant they were equal at the break. The home side really upped their game as play recommenced. They won the midfield battle to score three points before a Liam Campbell free got the Bridge going, but the Bridge lacked cohesion in this half and wasted possession with wide balls and others kicked into the goalkeeper’s hands. They did get the scores back level as the final minutes approached but failed to move into the lead and at the end they were two points astray. The final score was 0-14 to 0-12.

B Team

The B’s went out in determined mode in last Thursday’s replay of the all-County League final and claimed the victory with a final score of 1-9 to 1-6.
The Bridge had the better of the encounter in the first half with young Ruairi Griffin in top form claiming four points and a point from Colm Traynor giving the Bridge a two-point lead at the break.
In the second half Ruairi’s goal, three points from Bernard Connolly and another one from Colm Traynor ensured the Bridge retained their lead. The whole team played as a unit and Jarlath Burn’s ball-winning display at midfield meant play progressed at speed into the danger area where the forwards pulled off some nice scores.
Well done to the entire team, both players and management under the direction of Rory Donnelly.

Ladies Football

A girl’s Silverbridge rain-jacket has been found in the field. The owner can reclaim it by contacting Kieran Murphy.
The Seniors have just one game left to play to finish off the League. This game is with St Patricks and has been fixed for Wednesday 3rd October at 6 pm in Cullyhanna. Their next appointment after that is with Clady on Sunday 7th October as the opening fixture on the programme of activities on the day of the opening of the new field.
