Seniors

The Bridge had to be content with a draw when the Newtown men come to Keeley Park in June, but the seniors went one better in Sunday’s game against St Michaels taking the points home and doing it convincingly.
The game proved to be a tight, physical encounter with the Bridge the better team on the day. Brendan Byrne pointed a free to get the lads going and Damian McCann converted another free soon afterwards. In fact both men shared the scoring honours in the first half. Newtown got their first score from a free in the 12th minute but Brendan Byrne converted one of his own in reply. This was a half of frees and the first score from play came in the 22nd minute when Brendan turned the ball over and took his score. The Bridge were much the sharper team and took full advantage of Newtown’s mistakes to go in at the break with a four-point lead.
Once again the Bridge were first off the mark as play resumed, as Brendan Byrne converted another free, and Brendan McGuire’s goal attempt just would not cross the line. As in the first half the backs defended well and midfield won most of the breaking ball. The forwards were also sharper in this half and picked off their scores, although they did have a tendency at times to take too much out of the ball and another team might have punished them for that.
However it was the Bridge day and the final score of 0-13 to 0-8 the proof.
On Wednesday night they are home to Carrickcruppen at 8 pm, and next Sunday they also have a home game, this time with Granemore at 2 pm.

U 21

The U 21s played Tír na nÓg  in Lurgan on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the championship, but lost the game in the dying moments to run out losers by one point. It was a tough, hard, tight match with little to choose between the teams. At full time the teams had six points each, but the Lurgan men won the ball in injury time and made the break up the field to score the winning point.
