Dinner Dance and Presentation

This year’s annual dinner dance turned out to be a very successful affair in the Park Inn on Friday night last.
After a hearty meal M.C. Jarlath Burns got proceedings underway by welcoming special guests South Board Chairman, Sean Reavey and his wife Una, and called on club Chairman Donal Walsh for a few words.
Donal welcomed everyone and congratulated all the club teams especially the B team that had won the All county League and the senior Ladies team that were runners up in their league. He also sent his congratulations to the victorious St Josephs High School Crossmaglen team and especially our club boys on that team. He thanked Tony Hearty who so kindly sponsors the presentations every year. He thanked all our Lotto sellers and voluntary workers who have put such an effort into the present stage of the club development plan, all team sponsors and managers who play such an important role in keeping football alive in the club.
It was then the turn of Sean Reavey who commented on the high turnout of young people who are such an asset to any community and to whom the older members have the responsibility of leading by example. He was full of praise for the good work being carried out in the club at under-age level and said the great new facilities at Fords Cross would be enjoyed by many generations to come. He said that it was most fitting these new fields should be named after Peter Keeley who throughout his life was such an advocate for undereage players and who would truly love to hear the laughter of so many youngsters enjoying themselves.
The Presentations then began in earnest. Club President, Mixie Toal,  presented the senior ladies with their medals. They came very close to taking the league title, but ladies’ football is getting stronger in the club and we look forward in anticipation to next year. Next followed a special presentation to Peter Carragher, Harry Thornton, Gary Martin, Neill McCann, Ciaran McGuire, Garry Rowland and Bob Hearty the club members of St Josephs team. Adrian Campbell received the County League Cup from Sean Reavey on behalf of the B team and its manager Rory Donnelly who was assisted by Gabe Grant during the season.
Niamh Gernon was nominated U 16 Ladies Player of the Year, while Ollie Hearty and Thomas McKenna shared that honour for the boys U 16 team and were presented with the Jim McKinley Cup. The Minor Player of the Year was Paul Hughes who received the Gerry Hughes Cup. The Mick Bailie Cup was presented to Benny Cummiskey the B Player of the year, and Stefan Murphy received the Peter Keeley Cup and the title of Young Player of the Year.
The Senior Ladies Player of the Year is Adrienne Hoey who received her trophy from Kieran Murphy and the final presentation of the night and the Peter Reel Cup went to Anthony Mallie who is this year’s Player of the year.
