Silverbridge Notes 8 September 2009

Senior Team

The Seniors were beaten by Ballymacnab on Saturday evening in what was one of the poorest games this year. It was a very scrappy game for both teams with yellow cards dished out like sweets and a player from each team being sent off in the second half. The final score 1-6 to 1-4 was a poor reflection on the chances the Bridge missed in a game that was there for the taking. Training continues and it is important that everyone turns out in a bid to avoid relegation.

Scor Na nOg

Its that time of year again with the first round of Scor Na nOg scheduled for early October. If you would like to take part in Scor Na nOg please contact any committee member for more details.

Silverbridge retain the Conlon Cup

On Saturday past a large number of teams presented themselves at Keeley Park to compete in the annual Conlon Cup and Shield under 10 competitions. Silverbridge fielded teams in both Cup and Shield divisions.

Our A team began their defence of the cup with group games against Killeavey, Carrickcruppen and lastly Mullaghbawn .The boys and girl gave a good account of themselves in all three matches and emerged as group winners . Next up was Shane O Neill’s in the semi final. Although we made a dream start, scoring a number of goals in the first period the team had to show great resilience to hold on for a narrow win .This victory led us into the final of the cup for the second successive year. Our opponents were our near neighbours Crossmaglen Rangers. What ensued was one of the most entertaining matches of the day. Both teams gave their all in an intense game and at the end of normal time were level on the scoreboard. Two tired teams entered ten minutes of extra time with the ‘Bridge youngsters emerging victorious by the narrowest of margins.
