Senior Team

The Seniors played host to Armagh Harps on Sunday. The visitors claimed three goals in the first half and were leading by 10 points at half time. The Bridge were very unlucky that missed a goal in the first half which would have lessened the margin however, they stepped up a gear in the second half with Damian Mc Cann scoring a goal from a free. This helped the home side and they closed the gap to three points towards the finish . The Harps scored their only three points in the late stages of the second half to claim victory by four points.

Gaelic Go Start

Gaelic Go Start resumes on Sunday 11 October. Parents are urged to be there at 10am to help set up for a 10.45 start and to enable children to be teamed with a suitable partner to help make the circuit more enjoyable. This is a well worth while activity and is more geared towards 4-8 year olds.

Under 10's

On Saturday past our Under 10s made the long journey north to Newbridge Co. Derry to take part in their annual tournament. In all 18 players took part in what turned out to be an excellent experience for everyone involved. In the group stages of the competition the ‘bridge team were pitted against Kilrea, Magherafelt .and Creggan. We were slow to adapt to the nine a side format and managed only one win in their section. This meant that we qualified for the shield competition where their opposition in the quarter final were The Loup, yet another Derry team. However the team had, by this stage, learned a few of the tactics of the smaller sided game and comfortably saw off the challenge of The Loup. Next up we faced Magherafelt in the shield semi final. Although we began brightly and were well ahead at half time thanks to a flurry of scores from our very effective forwards Magherafelt made a great comeback in the second half and can consider themselves unlucky to lose out by the slenderest of margins.

In the final we took on a much bigger Cargin Erins Own team. However we stuck manfully to the task in hand and at half time led by 3 points .Facing into a strong wind and playing up a slight incline, the odds were stacked heavily in Cargin’s favour. However this is far from what transpired as this team again showed terrific character to completely overwhelm their opposition to run out convincing winners.

Overall the whole day proved to be a wonderful experience from early morning until we returned, tired but happy, at 6 o’clock that evening. We are grateful to Newbridge for the invitation and look forward to returning again next season. Their hospitality and organisational skills were second to none and the competition itself was played in a very sporting fashion. This brings an end to the U10 season for 2009 and we look forward to seeing this talented group develop through the various age groups in the future.
