PETER KEELEY CUP & KEVIN HEARTY SHIELD 2011
Our annual 7-a-Side Minor Competition last Saturday welcomed teams from 4 different counties – the Orchard County was represented by Shane O’Neill’s, Corakill Blues, Madden, St Peter’s Lurgan, Cullyhanna, Dromintee, Mullaban & Silverbridge, the Wee County by Roche Emmetts, The Mourne County by Burren, and the Saffrons by Creggan Kickhams It was a day of keen, competitive football played in a very sporting spirit ahead of the new season. The constant stream of supporters on the day were treated to a feast of football and were keen to show their appreciation for the high quality football on display. Out of the 11 teams that took part, Creggan Kickhams emerged winners of The Peter Keeley Cup following a nailbiting finish on penalties against Shane O’Neills. The host club overcame local rivals Cullyhanna to lift the Kevin Hearty Shield for the first time in this competition.
The day could not have been such a huge success without the enthusiasm of the supporters, and the overwhelming support of countless volunteers, club members and helpers who all pitched in with the catering, stewarding, supervision, parking, administration and field preparation. Thanks, also, to the referees, umpires and linesmen for their contribution. A special word of thanks to Crossmaglen Rangers for the loan of their goal posts. Many, many thanks to everyone for ‘playing their part’.
Football

training Wednesdays 7.30 – 9pm. New members always welcome.
‘Seniors’ – Challenge match last Thursday night against Carrickcruppen. Great performances in particular from Peter McCreesh & Cathal Lambe and overall a great effort by everyone. Training as usual.
‘Minors’ – A tough encounter at home between Silverbridge and Termonfeckin last Monday 28th March. We had a consistently good first half performance however the home team were unable to maintain their form in the second half. Nonetheless the team should use this experience as a useful lesson for the coming season.
