Silverbridge 0-12: Madden 1-7
Last Wednesday’s match at home to Madden was expected to be a challenging encounter and in the end it gave us its fair share of drama and excitement. The ‘Bridge held its own in the first half but found itself 2 points down at the short whistle. A goal from Madden kept pressure levels high and saw the visitors slip slowly further ahead. However, in the last 10 minutes, rousing cheers of encouragement from teammates and supporters bolstered the ‘Bridge’s spirits resulting in 6 unanswered points. A really great performance all round.
Sunday 31st July:
Silverbridge 0-8: St Michael’s 0-7
A relatively low scoring match played in wet, heavy conditions. Despite trailing at half time, the ‘Bridge kept their focus and worked very hard in the second half. Pete McCreesh and Christopher Reel kept things tight in defence whilst Ryan Hamill made his mark in attack. Well done to everyone. Silverbridge 1-7 Dromintee 2-12
Silverbridge were up against a strongly fancied Dromintee team on Monday 25th July. They started well, scoring at will and with accuracy, however, against the run of play Dromintee scored their first goal to put them a point ahead. With their confidence boosted they came close to scoring again but for a brave point blank save by Cormac McKinley. Silverbridge, however, attacked straight away with Cathal McKeown netting an excellent goal. Half time score: Silverbridge 1-6; Dromintee 1-4.
In the second half, though, things just didn’t happen for the ‘bridge. Dromintee, boosted by the home support, scored a goal and 8 points without reply. Silverbridge had their chances and the final score does not truly reflect their ability given their first half performance. On a positive note, they ended the match with a well taken free from play. A disappointing outcome after such a promising start.
On Thursday 28th July the U16’s met Clann Eireann at home. This high scoring, energetic match saw a lot of skill and talent from both teams. In the
opening seconds the ‘Bridge were first on the score sheet but Clann Eireann immediately responded with a goal. Strong, competitive football gave Clann Eireann the lead at half time, however, the local lads battled on scoring almost entirely from play. (Final score: Silverbridge 1-19; Clann Eireann 3-09) TEAM: C McKinley, C McCrave, P Reel, C Quinn, G Rowland, C Mulholland, D Reel, A Quinn, C McKeown, E Burns, P Keating, J Rock, P McKeever, D Traynor, A Grant. Sub used: Jack McArdle
